Hi, I'm Sloane. I specialize in helping individuals navigate through depression to rediscover meaning and connection in their lives. My training in Marriage and Family Therapy gives me a unique perspective that helps me address both your personal experience of depression and how it affects your relationships.

I understand that depression presents differently for each person. Your experience of sadness, withdrawal, or emptiness is shaped by your specific life circumstances, family background, and personal history. I'm here to help you understand these patterns and develop effective strategies for relief.

My practice offers a supportive, non-judgmental environment where all aspects of your depression can be expressed freely. Whether you're experiencing persistent sadness, loss of interest in activities, or overwhelming fatigue, we'll work together to explore these feelings in the context of your life. Together, we'll identify pathways to healing while building your capacity for resilience and renewed purpose.

My approach to depression therapy

My approach to depression therapy is built on structured systems theory, recognizing that depression affects both individuals and their connections with othres. We'll explore how depression influences your interactions with family, friends, and colleagues while still focusing your personal experience.

I don't focus solely on symptom management or quick fixes that don't address underlying causes. Instead, we'll work to understand the root factors contributing to your depression so you can experience meaningful, lasting change.

Whether you're experiencing sadness, loss of interest, difficulty concentrating, or fatigue, our work together will help you identify patterns, develop personalized strategies, and strengthen your support network. Common reasons why people seek depression therapy

Is my practice right for you?

There may be some situations where my practice isn't the right fit for your needs. Here are some examples of times when I may recommend accessing other resources first.

  • If you're experiencing an urgent mental health crisis, please contact the 989 Lifeline (available 24/7) rights way.

  • If you're experiencing severe depression requiring intensive outpatient programs, partial hospitalization, or inpatient treatment, I recommend working with another local organization first.

  • My work is primarily with adult clients. If you're looking for child or teen therapy, I recommend connecting with a provider who works with those populations.

  • If you're seeking sex therapy, therapy for chronic illness, group therapy, or another service or specialty area, I can connect you with other specialized, experienced therapists who can help in those areas.

If you're unsure whether my services are a match for you, I invite you to reach out for a complimentary consultation so we can discuss your situation directly.

FAQs about depression therapy

  • Depression can manifest in many ways beyond just feeling sad. Common depressive symptoms include persistent feelings of emptiness or hopelessness, loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, and fatigue that doesn't improve with rest.

While occasional feelings of sadness are a normal part of life, depression typically involves symptoms that persist for at least two weeks and interfere with your daily functioning. If you're questioning whether what you're experiencing might be depression, that's often reason enough to reach out for professional support.

It's important to note that "depression" itself isn't a diagnosis. It's a common term used to describe mood disorders, which are a group of mental health concerns in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM), which therapists use to diagnose mental health struggles. Persistent depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and postpartum depression are all examples of mood disorders.

You also don't need a diagnosis to benefit from depression therapy. I encourage you to reach out for support, even if you're not sure whether you have depression.

  • Yes, therapy can help even if you're not diagnosed with depression or other mental health conditions.

For example, many people can experience depression-like symptoms when they go through major life transitions or lose a loved one. I also specialize in grief and loss therapy, which can help you process your experiences and move forward even if you're not "depressed" in the traditional sense.

Therapy can also help you build self-esteem, work through relationship problems, and learn coping skills to navigate the stressors that are an inherent part of life.

  • There's no one-size-fits-all "best" method for depression treatment. In my work, I primarily use a systems lens, which means that I seek to understand your relationship with yourself and the environment around you. Through this holistic approach, we can gain a comprehensive view of your depression to fully understand its roots and develop effective paths toward healing.

While understanding which treatment methods a therapist uses is important, it's not the be-all end for effective therapy. The therapeutic relationship itself often becomes a catalyst for healing, creating a secure foundation from which deeper exploration becomes possible.

  • While medication be a part of your mental health journey, it doesn't have to be. Many of my clients notice significant improvement with therapy alone while others benefit from the combination of medication and counseling.

Note that I exclusively provide psychotherapy. If you're interested in medication options, I recommend contacting your primary care provider or a psychiatrist. Only medical doctors can prescribe medication, though I'm happy to work alongside your care team.

  • Depression therapists can be a range of expert mental health professionals, from marriage and family therapists to clinical social workers to psychologists.

Most therapists can provide some kind of treatment for depression and other mental health issues like anxiety, so it's important to consider other factors like their specific approach, the treatment methods they use, and the person-level connection you feel with them.
